AI-Generated Conversational Radio Feature
YouTube Music is taking a significant step forward in its quest to provide users with an unparalleled music discovery experience. The platform has introduced two new features designed to make it easier for users to discover new songs and artists. First, we’ll explore the AI-generated conversational radio feature that’s currently being tested with select Premium users in the United States.
How It Works
Users who have access to this experimental feature can create a custom radio station by describing what they want to hear. For instance, you could ask for ‘catchy pop choruses’ or ‘upbeat pop anthems.’ The AI-driven technology uses natural language processing (NLP) to generate a playlist based on the user’s input.
Similar Features Across Other Music Streaming Services
It’s worth noting that YouTube Music is not the only music streaming service experimenting with AI-generated playlists. Spotify, Amazon Music, and Deezer are also testing similar features that allow users to enter written prompts to generate personalized listening experiences.
Future Rollout and Availability
While the feature is currently limited to select users, YouTube has announced plans to bring it to more users in the future. As of now, users can access the new ‘Ask for music any way you like’ card in the app’s home feed. By clicking on this card, users will be directed to a conversational UI where they can enter custom prompts or select suggested ones.
Shazam-Like Song Recognition Feature
In addition to the AI-generated conversational radio feature, YouTube Music has also introduced a new song recognition tool that allows users to search for songs by sound. This innovative feature is designed to make it easier for users to discover new music and identify unknown tracks.
How It Works
When you tap ‘search’ in the app, you’ll see a waveform icon indicating that you can find the name of a song by singing, humming, or playing it. This feature goes beyond Shazam’s capabilities as it allows users to find songs by humming or singing them, whereas Shazam only works if you play the actual song.
Availability Across iOS and Android
The song detection tool, which was first made available to select Android YouTube Music users earlier this year, is now rolling out to all users across iOS and Android. This expansion ensures that users on both platforms can benefit from this innovative feature.
The Future of Music Discovery
These two new features demonstrate YouTube Music’s commitment to enhancing the music discovery experience for its users. By leveraging AI-driven technology, the platform aims to provide users with a more personalized and engaging way to explore new music. As these features continue to evolve, it will be interesting to see how they shape the future of music streaming services.
